Overview
More than 95 percent of the world’s 500 fastest computers utilize some form of a Linux operating system. Linux usage has experienced slow growth over the last decade, but as a new generation of developers gets their hands on this system, expect more users to get on board. Linux users benefit from a tight community of developers who collaborate to create some of the most innovative computing functions on the market. This line of Lenovo devices support the open-source nature of Linux systems. Whether you’re a developer or a loyal user, Linux-based Lenovo desktop computers, laptops and servers will reliably support whatever innovation you introduce. Lenovo has a robust selection of servers that support Linux. Running Linux on Lenovo servers provides an open, reliable, and secure IT environment. Lenovo offers a broad variety of servers available with the Linux operating system for customers who desire one-stop shopping. The range of Linux offerings available on Lenovo servers gives you the flexibility to deploy precisely the solution you need today that can easily scale as workloads demand.
While they all have the Linux kernel in common, various Linux distributions build their own operating systems on top of the basic open-source foundation. Linux distributions, referred to as “distros”, boast a range of backgrounds and features. The following are some of the most popular distros of the Linux Operating System today:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server
Business-critical applications need a platform that is proven to be stable. Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server fulfills core operating system functions and includes additional capabilities that provide a firm foundation for application infrastructure. Combining Red Hat Enterprise Linux with Lenovo servers gives you exceptional reliability and military-grade security, freeing you to deliver meaningful business results through technology.
SUSE Enterprise Linux Server
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server running on Lenovo systems offers a reliable, high-performance solution providing application flexibility and enhanced virtualization capabilities. A highly scalable and secure server operating system, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is built to power both physical and virtual mission-critical workloads. With SUSE Linux Enterprise Server running on Lenovo servers as a foundation, enterprises can deliver business services, enable secure networks, and manage heterogeneous IT resources.
Oracle Linux
Oracle Linux provides the latest innovations, tools, and features enabling enterprises to innovate, collaborate, and create solutions across traditional, cloud-based, and virtual environments. Providing advanced scalability and reliability for enterprise applications, Oracle Linux delivers a high-value, low-cost option for Lenovo servers, which are tested and certified on Oracle Linux.
Canonical Ubuntu Linux
Lenovo has worked with the Ubuntu open-source team on flexible and scalable solutions using our server families. With no license fees or subscription costs, Ubuntu Server can help you scale your data center efficiently. Subscriptions to Ubuntu Advantage, Canonical’s management program, include support for unlimited virtualization and, unlike other enterprise Linux distributions, the price does not increase with additional CPUs.
